Alumni in Taiwan Celebrate Chinese New Year

05/03/2018

On the night of 24 February, the weather in Taipei was chilly. However, the ballroom of the Regent Taipei overflowed with warmth and laughter, as nearly 100 alumni and faculty members of CUHK Business School gathered for Chinese New Year.

This celebration was the first alumni event in Taiwan co-organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office and the CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association. As the host of the event, Business School Dean Prof. Kalok Chan kicked things off with a traditional “kung hei fat choy” blessing and expressed his gratitude to all the guests. “I am very impressed by the many alumni tonight who graduated from different programs. I give my thanks to the united and loyal Taiwan alumni community, who have consistently supported the Business School over the years. My special thanks also go to Dr. Wei Jung-Tsung, Chairman of the Taiwan Alumni Association, for his leadership, and the time and resources he devoted to make this event happen.”

Dr. Wei smiled and stated, “We are proud to be part of the CUHK Business School family. We were taught to be great leaders, not just for our businesses, but also for our society. Our alumni in Taiwan love giving back to their alma mater. We are all very excited to be here and are grateful that faculty members flew to Taiwan to celebrate the Year of the Dog with us.”

Prof. Kalok Chan then led a toast along with Dr. Wei and Prof. Wong Suk Ying, the CUHK Associate Vice-President, before the guests enjoyed a banquet of Taiwanese delicacies. Afterwards, attendees watched two fascinating performances: a Chinese magic show by Xinmagic and a yo-yo demonstration by Mr. Yang Yuan-Ching, whose skills earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

“It’s always delightful to meet old and new friends. Alumni are valuable assets of our Business School. We will continue reaching out to the community and engaging our alumni around the world,” said Ms. Florence Lai, the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director.
